Protect Your Baby From RSV With Beyfortus®
Beyfortus®, A Simple Way to Help Safeguard Your Little One’s Health
Protecting your baby’s health is vital, especially during RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) season. Primary Pediatrics is proud to offer Beyfortus®, an important medication to help safeguard infants from RSV, one of the most common causes of serious respiratory illness in babies.
What Is RSV?
RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, is a highly contagious virus that tends to surge in the fall and winter and lead to bronchiolitis or pneumonia in infants. It’s common for children to catch RSV before the age of 2. However, it can lead to dangerous complications and even hospitalization if caught too early, typically within the first year of a child’s life.
At Primary Pediatrics, our doctors see firsthand how quickly RSV can overtake your baby. That’s why we offer Beyfortus®, a safe non-vaccine immunization that protects children from the severity of RSV.

What Is Beyfortus®?
Beyfortus® is not a vaccine.
Beyfortus® (nirsevimab-alip) is a monoclonal antibody that gives your baby the antibodies needed to help block RSV from infecting their vulnerable system. It provides protection right away, giving your baby antibodies directly, rather than asking their immune system to make them.
Think of Beyfortus® as a ready-made layer of defense designed to last through the entire RSV season with just one dose.
Beyfortus® Is an Antibody. It’s Not a Vaccine.
A vaccine trains the immune system to produce virus-fighting antibodies over time.
Beyfortus® doesn’t do that. Instead, it delivers the RSV-fighting antibodies itself, so your child is protected immediately. This is especially beneficial for children who are too young to receive vaccines because their immune systems are still developing.
Beyfortus® is an excellent option for infants under 8 months old entering their first RSV season and for certain high-risk children up to 24 months old.
What a Vaccine Does
A vaccine places a small amount of a virus or pathogen into a person’s system so that, over time, the body can build the antibodies needed to protect against a full-blown infection.
What Beyfortus® Does
Beyfortus® provides the antibodies that will fight against an RSV infection into your baby’s system immediately, no antibody stimulation needed!
Who Is Eligible for Beyfortus®?
Your Primary Pediatrics doctor can help determine if your baby qualifies for Beyfortus®.
In general, Beyfortus® is recommended for:
All infants younger than 8 months who were born during or entering their first RSV season (typically fall through spring) if:
- The mother did not receive an RSV vaccine during pregnancy
- The mother’s RSV vaccination status is unknown
- The baby was born within 14 days of maternal RSV vaccination
Children 8–19 months old who are at an increased risk for severe RSV infection, including:
- Children born prematurely or those with weakened immune systems
- Children with chronic lung disease of prematurity who require medical support (chronic corticosteroid therapy, diuretic therapy, or supplemental oxygen) any time during the 6-month period before the start of their second RSV season
- Children with cystic fibrosis who have either 1) manifestations of severe lung disease (previous hospitalization for pulmonary exacerbation in the first year of life or abnormalities on chest imaging that persist when stable) or 2) weight-for-length <10th percentile
- American Indian or Alaska Native children
Your Primary Pediatrics provider will help you understand whether Beyfortus® is right for your child and when you should schedule their dose.
